The Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing ( GIDDN ) is committed to promoting health equity for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities ( IDD ) through the vehicle of nursing. The GIDDN develops and deploys educational content to nursing students and residents, professionals, and leaders in healthcare, through a variety of synchronous and asynchronous learning activities, both directly and via distribution partners. Established in 2018 and currently moving from what has been a development and testing phase into a phase of deploying and beginning to generate revenue from its content, the GIDDN is entrepreneurial, nimble, curious, and solution-focused.
Job Responsibilities
St. John Fisher University is seeking an Instructional Designer to join the Golisano Institute for Developmental Disability Nursing ( GIDDN ). The Instructional Designer plays a critical role in the GIDDN team by leveraging their expertise in instructional design and LMS technology to enhance the quality and reach of the organization’s educational programs. This individual will be responsible for procuring and administering effective instructional technology, such as authoring tools, learning management systems, event management systems and other instructional technology to ensure fit for, and display of, learning materials and experiences. Additionally, they will collaborate with external instructional design and distribution vendors, subject matter experts, and internal IT staff to ensure seamless integration of technology into educational programs.
Instructional Design and Development:
Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and develop e-learning modules, courses, and training materials.
Utilize authoring tools, such as Articulate, to create interactive and engaging e-learning content.
Implement multimedia elements, quizzes, and assessments to enhance learning experiences.
Ensure content is accessible, user-friendly, and aligns with instructional design best practices.
Learning Management System ( LMS ) Administration:
Manage and maintain the organization’s Learning Management System ( LMS )
Upload, organize, and track training content within the LMS .
Monitor learner progress and troubleshoot any technical issues related to the LMS .
Vendor Collaboration:
Collaborate with external instructional design and distribution vendors to ensure the delivery of high-quality training materials.
Communicate project requirements, provide feedback, and ensure projects meet organizational standards.
Technology Integration:
Lead internal integration of technology into synchronous and asynchronous educational programs.
Work closely with internal IT staff to integrate instructional technology into the organization’s educational infrastructure.
Troubleshoot technical issues related to e-learning platforms, Zoom, and other technology tools.
Training and Support:
Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees on how to use e-learning tools and platforms effectively.
Provide technical support to learners and instructors as needed.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct quality checks and evaluations on training materials to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, and alignment with learning objectives.
Continuously improve and update existing content based on feedback and performance data.
Education / Experience
Required:
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field; Masters or Doctoral degree preferred.
3 years of experience in instructional design and e-learning development.
Proficiency in authoring tools, such as Articulate Storyline, Captivate, or similar software.
Strong familiarity with Learning Management Systems ( LMS ), including administration and content management.
Experience with video conferencing tools, e.g. Zoom Events.
Familiarity with accessibility standards and guidelines for e-learning content.
Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
Preferred Certifications:
Certified Instructional Designer ( CID )
Certified E-Learning Specialist ( CES )
Certified Learning Management System Administrator ( CLMSA )
Competencies / Skills
Project Management: Ability to plan, execute, and monitor instructional technology projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget . Including the ability to manage changing priorities and circumstances while achieving overall project goals.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. Maintaining high level of confidentiality.
Collaboration: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, facilitating cooperation between instructional designers, IT staff, and external vendors.
Problem-Solving: Adept at troubleshooting technical issues and providing effective solutions to maintain the integrity of instructional systems.
Quality Assurance: A keen eye for detail, with the ability to assess and improve the quality of instructional content.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing technology trends and incorporate new tools and methodologies into instructional design.
